Find a ride

Are you familiar with this situation as a pedestrian?

You're standing at the side of the road and countless cars drive past you. (Almost) all of them have only one person in them β€” the driver. Several seats are empty and you...

waiting for the bus, which is unexpectedly canceled, meaning you might be late.

have a long or arduous journey to the nearest bus stop.

have a disability that makes it difficult for you to get around on foot.

always have to cover the "first or last mile," which is why you resort to using your own car.

would actually prefer to ride along rather than drive yourself.

Give a ride

Are you familiar with this situation as a driver?

You have to or want to use your car because there is no better or faster mobility option. Like so many others, you drive alone. And that's despite the fact that your car actually has up to five seats.

But you don't know who else is traveling the same route at the same time.

Yes, you know there are ride-sharing apps, but coordinating and setting times in advance is difficult for you.

You would like to contribute more to reducing CO2 emissions and traffic congestion.

You would give other people a ride, but it has to be easy.

Spontaneous

  • No chatting or arranging before the ride
  • Still be able to recognize who can be picked up and when currently
  • Calculated waiting times 5-10 minutes (with exceptions)

Safe

  • Verified participants
  • Traceable trips
  • High level of data protection
  • So safe that women feel safe

Visible

  • The system will be recognizable on the roadside

Especially

  • For short distances: 1–20 km
  • As a mobility option to the nearest public transport stop, the nearest car-sharing station, for the so-called "first and last mile"
  • For short and direct routes that already have heavy traffic

Only for women?

  • Yes, because:
  • women trust women
  • they have "different routes and different times" (due to care work)
  • they are more often affected by mobility poverty*

Limited mobility

  • People with physical limitations that make mobility difficult (e.g., visual, hearing, or walking impairments)
  • Senior citizens
  • and people who suffer from mobility poverty* (often single parents)

Usability

  • Barrier-free
  • Easy to use
  • Possibly even with an analog version

*Mobility poverty

  • is a restriction of social participation in which four dimensions interact: availability, accessibility, and affordability of transport services, as well as mobility-related time poverty. A person is potentially affected by mobility poverty if their social participation is restricted in one or more of these dimensions. Women are often affected by this.

Background information

  • Approximately 50% of all trips with cars in Germany are less than 5 km.
  • Nearly 90% of all cars in motorized individual transport (MIV) are occupied by only one person, even though they (usually) have up to 5 seats.
  • Mobility is often limited in rural areas due to a lack of public transportation.

Short distances

  • approx. 1-20 km
  • Good for the "first and last mile" and short distances on direct routes

Environmental aspects

  • In 2024, motorized individual transport (MIV) emitted 146 million tons of CO2
  • If we reduce the number of cars on the roads, we can save CO2, sealed surfaces, and parking spaces

Social aspects

  • Riding in one car:
  • Promotes contact and communication
  • Reduces anonymity
  • Reduces loneliness
  • Can be a great help to other people

Providing mobility in order to maintain mobility

  • By giving rides, you can accumulate credit that you can use for rides.
  • As well as other benefits that we will communicate later.

Helpfulness

  • People who own a car give rides to others who, for whatever reason, do not own a car.
  • Giving rides promotes community and cohesion.

Charity

  • You can give certain social groups a free ride if you want (e.g., retirees, people with disabilities, single parents, students, etc.).
  • Donate your mileage credit (which is also equivalent to a financial credit) to social projects or charitable organizations.

You decide

  • It is your own decision whether you give others a ride in order to receive a contribution towards your travel costs, donate the contribution to charity, or give people a ride for free.
  • You can change your mind at any time if your circumstances change.

Subscription model

  • With a monthly fee
  • Alternatively, also based on usage
  • plus mileage allowance for passengers

Target groups

  • Private individuals (B2C)
  • Companies (B2B)
  • Local authorities (B2G)

Focus on participation

People without disabilities can offer rides to people with disabilities.
People with limited mobility can decide whether to share the information in the system and with other users.
People (e.g., seniors) can gain more mobility through the system and thus β€’ give up their own car. β€’ participate more fully in life again. Because: Mobility is social participation!

We asked for YOUR OPINION and here are the results:

First of all, many thanks to everyone who took part. Your feedback and suggestions have helped us a great deal.

Survey 1

It was about personal car use, willingness to ride with others and offer rides, concerns and fears, motivation, and acceptance, especially with regard to genders w / d / m.

Survey 2

It now turns to how you would most like to hear about the app once it becomes available, whether you would only ride with people of the same gender, how you assess the subscription model, how many attempts would be acceptable until the first ride happens, and in which surrounding areas RamZsam should be usable.
